Buy the gym - what the people at the gym don't tell you is that if their equipment "messes up" and you get hurt (like a Smith Machine, etc) they are not liable. They're not good at maintaining the machines properly at many gyms, once they set them up they don't check them again. If you have your own, you can work out when you want and know that you have checked on all the moving parts to make sure it is in safe working order. Of course, you could sue a gym, but that doesn't really take care of the harm you may be caused...
