Yes it is safe and a great idea for high energy dogs. You have to be cautious when you start training her so she doesn't get hurt. It might be a good idea to get some tips on getting her started from someone who's done it.

I was looking around on the internet for a treadmill for my Dachshund. But all the treadmills they have are so expensive. They are all like $400 and $500 dollars. I found this one treadmill called a Dog Walker treadmill for $100 but I don't know...
You don't need a "dogwalker" treadmill. It sounds like a ripoff to me.
Use a regular treadmill---either walk with the dog between your legs or
put a leash on it and let the dog walk---10-15 min should be plenty.

I have a small, indoor dog. She should weigh 8lbs, but weighs 12lbs. I was considering "walking" her on a treadmill. How many minutes is safe to do this on a daily basis?
I have had several small foster dogs who needed more than a regular walk, and I taught them to use the treadmill, as well.
If I were you, I would not use only the treadmill, because walking with your dog is about more than exercise....

We are training our dogs to run on the treadmill now. I can only walk maybe two hours a day, and they STILL aren't tired. I wish I had that kind of stamina! Anyway, the little girl can walk 6 hours, if not more, so she looooves

Once she has the animal on its paws and pain free, Glinski said she teaches the owners how to massage the dog or cat at home.
“ We work with the owners as well as the animals,” she said. “We want to empower them to help their pets get better and lead long and full lives.”

We know that we’re supposed to walk our dogs every day, but for those who are too lazy to do so can always let their four-legged friends to amble along on this Jog-a-Dog treadmill. Such a “toy” won’t come cheap though as it retails for a whopping $3,000, and it will hardly do its part to cement your position as the pack leader in the eyes of your pooch. Guess it comes in handy during rainy days, but three grand sounds pretty outrageous, doesn’t it?
