Small, Compact, Inexpensive Treadmill?

I'm overweight, but I love jogging. Problem is my parents work all the time and wont lemme jog by myself outside. I was wondering what treadmill is small, and can be folded, and inexpensive?

I saw a treadmill years ago where they could fold it and stuff.

Also explain why the features it has too, if you can. :]

Hi Lovestruck!

I'm a fitness professional. I've used and seen a lot of different brands of treadmills. However, you should stay away from the ICON brand of products due to quality and noise issues. The ICON brand includes such names as NordicTrack, ProForm, Weider, Weslo, Cadence, Image, Epic, Reebok, HealthRider, & Gold's Gym, any of which would be displayed at non-fitness dealers like K-Mart, WalMart, etc. Remember you get what you pay for! I'd recommend the Horizon Fitness treadmills because they're great units, with features, styling, and noise suppression that it's competitors can't match. Horizon is pure quality, with excellent warranties and for their price Horizon's the best deal around! The Horizon T81 seems to be the treadmill you're looking. It's small (20" x 50" running area), has a "feather-light" folding system, console fan, 8 programs, up to 10% incline, 2.0 HP motor for speeds to 10 mph with a 275 lb. maximum user weight capacity, contact heart rate sensors, heavy gauge steel frame, and you can pick one up for about $598. Take a look at the Treadmill Sensei's Review (link below) of the T81 where he rates it a "2008 Best Buy Award Winner".

As far as where to find Horizon products, you'll get great service at the lowest prices by buying on-line. I just checked pricing yesterday for several clients and A2Z Fit (link & phone below) was the best on-line Horizon dealer out there. I've worked with A2Z many times in the past for my clients. You'll get Free inside delivery, extra discounts, financing, and no sales tax (except when shipping to PA). Also, they're customer service oriented, knowledgeable about the products they sell, and willing to answer any questions you may have. Get in touch with A2Z Fit. I'm sure they can help you out... I hope that's of benefit to you!

  • Consumer Reports rates best buys for treadmills and elliptical exercise machines

Manufacturers of exercise equipment continue to introduce new features, including innovative engineering that allows you to vary your routine. Some have MP3 docks or USB connections that let you transfer your workout records to your computer and track your progress at the company's Web site. There are also more ultra-compact models, which might appeal to those who don't think they have the space for a home gym.

But how do you distinguish flashy machines that fall flat from the truly fantastic? Consumer Reports recently tested 48 machines, at prices ranging from $500 for the most affordable treadmill to $3,700 for the most expensive elliptical. It recommends 14 models, including five CR Best Buys, and it found one that you should stay away from.
