Mill worker tries hand at massage therapy
LEBANON — Logging to massage therapy may seem like an unusual career leap.
But not to Denny Simmons. The 30-year veteran of the logging industry is branching out.
“It does seem like a stretch when you look at it in a logger-to-massage-therapist kind of way, but I actually have always worked in the mill, not the woods. Most of what I do is push buttons for everything that is computerized,” said Simmons, 63, who recently became a licensed massage therapist.
He now finds time to provide his new skill to help relieve customers’ stress while still putting in hours at Weyerhaeuser in Sweet Home.
He teamed up with Malinda Davis, who started Total Healthy Living in downtown Lebanon. Davis offers alternative health options for those looking outside traditional medicine for help. She saw the value of adding a massage therapist.
