Suggestions on home workout equipment?

I am looking to purchase my first piece of home gym equipment. I can only spare about $150 right now, so my options are pretty limited. I am hoping to find something that will work more than just one target area. If need be, abs and lower body are the key areas I need to work. Any suggestions? I have heard great things about the Ab lounger, but that won't touch my legs.

I would go with a treadmill. You get a great cardio and it is a great way to start. You can look around and find a good used machine that will suit your purpose. Many times people will buy one and six months later it's in a garage sale. In the mean time, check this site for exercise and weight loss information.

High school gym locker theft & teacher failed to lock the room, isn't the school liable for this error?

When I picked my daughter up from school today, she was in tears as her cell phone and Ipod (Christmas present) were stolen from her gym locker as well as a few other girls. She said the teacher is to lock the room while they are in class but today it wasn't locked. Normally the teacher rushes them to get dressed out so she can lock it! Also, the students are required to use the locks provided by the school. Someone got into these locks, perhaps with a "teacher" key... I smell a rat. What is even more upsetting are the idiots who run the school! I called to report this to an administrator and was told to file a police report on my own, unbelievable. He never took my name or anything, just "well no one else has reported it" and just what did he think I was calling for? I am planning to file suit in small claims as the school failed here on so many levels. Please save the "she should have left the Ipod at home"speeches, I have already done this with her and no one deserves this.
I filed the police report when I got off the phone from the school. We even provided the serial number for the phone and the Ipod. I also need to mention that the school does not ban these items. In fact one day when without her phone, the school refused to let her use the phone to call home to tell me she missed the bus!
If you are going to flame me, then I will report as abuse. If you work for a school and are defending your failed actions, you are the wrong party to answer here. It doesn't matter what was stolen from the locker. What matters is the negligence of the school employee and the school's indifference...it would be a different story if the kids were allowed to have their own SECURE lock, now wouldn't it?

If the teacher is supposed to lock the locker room, and it wasn't, then it is their fault. The school, regardless, should do something to help you out, in the way of at least pretending to look for the culprit. Hopefully they wouldn't pretend, but you never know.

If the school doesn't even make an attempt to find out who stole the stuff then take them to small claims court and claim that your daughter entrusted her possessions to the school. They failed to fulfill that responsibility, since the locks that they provided did not work, and the lock to the locker room, which should have been locked was left open. If the locks to the lockers weren't broken or anything, then find out who has access to the combinations. If need be, bring the gym teacher in as a co-defendant for leaving the door open.

And just because a school may have signs saying "not responsible for stolen items," that does not mean they are absolved from all legal responsibility. If your daughter took all the precautions that she could, by putting the stuff in the locker, and locking it, then it is not her fault they were stolen. The school is responsible for the teacher, who is their employee, not locking the door which helped facilitate the burglary. And one also has to wonder how someone got the combinations, since I doubt someone brought some cutters to cut the locks, or even were able to pick it with a stethoscope or whatever is used.

what is a good work out routen that i can do at home?

a gym is always better and i understand that because you have all the equipment there but at the same time i get out of work at 12:30 at night and my gym closes at 10 and when i get home any ways im not tired cause im full of energy and therefore i can work out for 30min to an hour and get my daily exercise. The only ones i can think of are the ones you used to do in highschool and junior high. But i want something that is going to work and also i want only sertain areas... like my butt, legs, and abs.... those are my key places. i try but eventually i get board of the same thing and i also it seems as if it doesnt even work... PLEASE HELP.. im trying to loose at least 30 pounds and tone up... thanks

I have the perfect plan for you if you have self discipline. I had a baby 2 in a half months ago and I have lost 27 pounds and am smaller than I was before the baby. If you are at work or where ever and havn't been home than it is safe to say that you could probably spuce your house up a bit. If its that late and you don't want to wake anybody up, put a small radio by you other wise play the kind of music that you listen to. A cd the radio whatever you decide. And put in work. Scrub your floor on your hands and knees. That stretching and moving hits all of your target areas.I am living proof. lol When your listening to the music and your alone you'll also get fit by doing whatever you do to the music. Make smart decisions and don't pig out. You can eat, but do you really need that sweet at work or where ever? lol But you'll see by your clothes fitting better. By the scale. Don't be afraid to frequently weigh your self. And give the ab roller or whatever you have at home a whirl every once in awhile. When you walk by it take 5 minutes. You don't even have to do these things every day.

What ideas do you have regarding spare keys for a vehicle or house?

It's become common practice for me to lock my front door from the inside when I leave for work or running errands. I recently went out for a short walk to check my mail and locked myself out by accident. A few months ago, my roommate left his keys lying around the gym floor while working out and forgot to pick them up before he moved to another area. He broke his pattern, he said.He said he had a spare key under his car.It was held on there by a magnet, but apparently after some time, the glue dried up and caused the case to fall. He found the magnet, but no key box. He paid obviously more money for the lock to be popped open than it would have cost to get a spare key and have me keep it.When I got myself locked out I waited for him to come home during his lunch, but I waited outside with the oven preheating for mine. Because of this , he was able to leave early from work.I called him from a neighbor's cell. In the past, I've given spare keys to friends or family in town so they would just be a call away and it wouldn't cost me anything. I've also contemplated keeping a "spare key" rock or turtle outside of our place, but it's sort of gay and my roommate advised against it. It's his place.I'm interested in what other ideas others have using spare keys. Thanks!

Hiding a spare key is NOT a good idea, even those fake rocks. Criminals know the tricks. The best options are-
- External keypad or biometric operated key holder.
- Keypad or biometric operated lock.
- External code keypad for a garage door if it has an opener, but this requires leaving the inner door unlocked so is not a secure as the other two methods when used alone.

Gold's gym - price haggling?

I've been a member of Bally's for almost 7 years. I complained about it for the longest time because I basically had to die to get out of the contract. But since that's been paid off 4 years ago I only pay $15 a month (and that goes up like a dollar a year or something).

I'm thinking about joining Gold's b/c it is 5 minutes closer to my house and also opens at 5 instead of 5:30a. I work out in the mornings before work so the extra time is really key. Also a lot of people from work go there but I'm not sure that's a good or bad thing yet.

I'm wondering if you can haggle the price at Gold's. I get the law enforcement rate so they'll waive the down payment and then it's like $39 a month. What are the odds I can get this down to something in the $20s? Otherwise it's not worth it to me because I mainly run and lift weights at home and just keep the gym membership for bad weather and to get a break from running when I get sick of it a few times a year.

You can haggle with absolutely anyone- Golds Gym will do it too, even if they say they won't. The thing about haggling is that you have to be willing to leave and not buy the product or service if you don't get the price that you want... Be nice while you're haggling too, if they like you they are more likely to give you a favorable rate.

I'm in Sales, and I can tell you that no matter what you're buying, be it a new or used car, a gym membership, home improvements, anything- the salesperson wants to make as much as possible off the sale, but they will still cut the price so long as they can make any profit at all on it if it's either that or lose the customer.

Get Off the Couch: Trying it out is key to finding right exercise ...

It is true that as I have traveled from Zumba classes to bike races, swimming pools to running tracks, I have found young and old who have, indeed, found their passion.

But what about those of you who don't know where to begin?

It is much like the high school senior or college freshman who begins to wonder what is it they should study and look to pursue as a career.

If they are, as of yet, unaware of a profession's existence, how could they possibly know they want to head in that direction?

The same could be said for those of you who have not routinely exercised or played sports, but now would like to give it a try for the health of yourself, your children or your entire family.

How do you know what will be the best fit?

The key is to understand that there is so much to choose from and, like the high school senior or college student — if first you choose something that isn't a good match — just remember you can always choose again.
