I now it would be cheapest to buy secondhand, but assuming I'd like to buy something new, where can I find the best deals on an inexpensive home gym?
The easiest home gym is a barbell and plates with a bench. You can benchpress, squat, do dips, put the bar in a corner and do rows, overhead presses.....tons of exercises.

The nearest gym is nearly 2 hours away (I dont have a car so I have to take several buses to get there) I paid for a year's membership but frankly don't have time to commute there and back. Is there any store or website I can purchase cheap equipment? (dumbells, benches, etc..)
Find your local Goodwill or Salvation Army store. Where I live there's always tons of donated equipment for sale. Also, try area colleges and high schools. They usually sell old equipment to the public when they replace it with new stuff.

Call a local gym and ask where they get theirs. you also see them in banks and places in the mall.
When you see a new bank or something in your neighbor hood going up... find out who the contractor is and ask him(or her) to order you one along with the rest. You will save some cash and make a new friend!
Please suggest an alternative to recessed lighting that is inexpensive yet effective.
hanging lights with cost and energy efficient lighting is advisable. not only does it diffuse lights better (since it is lower), you can even have the option to choose what style or design you want for your hanging lights..especially if you have a theme for your gym or not, the preferences over plain recessed fluorescent lighting is plenty.
Hi, I'm a teenage basketball player who wants to work on my strength. Does anyone know any inexpensive home gyms, or machines, or methods I can do strength training at home? I've done light dumbbells, pushups, and jumprope for a while now. I want to go into heavy weight low reps.
Is there any method for me to work all my muscle groups at home?
Hell yes. If you're looking at gaining muscle, you don't need to join a gym even if it is really convenient. There are scores of exercises you can do to help build muscle at home and a lot of them can be rather inexpensive.
The only real downside to this is if you're working out all alone you can't go too heavy as it's dangerous if you don't have a spotter. There are self-spotting rigs you can set up however but you need to make sure your ceiling is up to the task.
I'll give you two websites showing different exercises that can be done. One shows how to work all muscle groups including how to work them using different things (barbell, dumb bells, cable machines). The other is a pretty good look at home workouts including some videos and how to set things up.

http://fitness.scoobysworkshop.com/ - A pretty good site including a fantastic chest workout. I can honestly say it's one of the best I've ever done.
