this is also a follow up to my previous question of:
hi im 16 and wanna start getting more muscle and strength for reasons like rugby etc and just to generally get a more slender looking body for summer etc aswell :).
i do a fair amount of body weight as u may call it exercises such as sit ups press ups ab crunches etc etc atm but i feel to gain more i need to incorperate weights.
i dnt wanna join a gym cause its expensive and i decided having a selection of things at home would be better because i can use it whenever i choose without needing transport to gym cause im 16 i cant yet drive its hassle for me.
ive been looking up some weights benchs for things like bench pressing etc with built in leg developers etc. but i just need advice about what is the best thing out there on the market for a rookie to this. ive looked at york and pure fitness etc and there is next to no reviews out there on any of it. i have a job etc so im willing to invest a considerable amount of money into this but sort of just need advice on wats best for me in terms of home gym since i feel thats the way i wanna go.
if theres any other fitness etc advice u have that is welcome to.
thanks in advance
They both look fine, but I prefer the type that has a bench that's not attached to the uprights -- that way it's better for abs and dumbbell work.
The uprights w/o the bench serve as a squat station as well.
I have this one and I highly recommend it.

Ok, I've been going to the gym quite a while now (half a year) I'm 16 y.o. 6 ft 1 inch, and I'm pretty happy with my results. During these 2 vacation weeks, I m going to change greatly, itll be like taking off the last imperfections. I have some questions however
-when you bench on a decline (http://www.home-gym-direct.com/Images/25 0x400/Maxicam_Compact_Decline_Bench_Weig ht_Bench_II.jpg) , which part of the chest works out?
-I was getting my ab packs, but I just stopped doing thsoe cause they were a pain in the butt. Im gonna get em during these two weeks. Iknow abs are a small muscle, you think I could work em out 1 day yes and one day no? I do sit ups on a decline as well, and for the jelly rolls (i dont know the name of those muscles sorry) I've never worked them out but they put a new machine, which I'll use along when im doing abs), and dont worry about the obliques, but I will also do them the days im doing abs.
thanks!
The decline chest press works the lower pec muscles. Just like an incline chest press works the upper pec muscles. Of course, all chest press exercises also work the tricep muscle fairly well also.
Yes, you should not work your abs every day. In fact, many professionals only recommend working each muscle group once per week. The actual muscle growth occurs primarily in the rest time following the workout, so if you workout the same muscle ever day you are actually limiting the growth of that muscle.
hey everyone, i have little money for gym equipment at home, and i was wondering if anyone has any nifty ideas on how to create a workout bench like this:
http://cdn.overstock.com/images/products /3/P11271756.jpg
ideas will be considered, thanks :)
IMO making a bench could be very dangerous unless you are skilled in welding. Just look around on ebay and other places i'm sure you could find one at reasonable price. But i think you could do yourself an injury as all benches are weight tested.
i moved house and somehow 3 pulleys have gone missing from my home gym. it is a V Fit Herculean gym. i remember them to be bog standard plastic pulleys. one was a single pully which a bolt fit into, the other was two joined pulleys and the thired was similar to the second however one was twisted. i have looked everywhere for something similar but have come up with nothing. a picture of the pulleys can be seen here connectiong the cables. http://www.prosportuk.com/images/indexpr odimages/2/home%20multi%20gyms/12.jpg
does anyone know a good dIY or online store that may sell these kind of items. perhaps and auto store? its always the small things that can hold one back. i paid about 500 euro for this gym, any help would be great.
thank you.
Try Mcmasters or Carr-Lane.They have catalogs that have just about everything in them. You could also contact the company that manufactured the gym.
I have the golds gym home set
http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/P/B0 000ASGTA.01-A2QUBZRFQD7A2Q._SCMZZZZZZZ_. jpg
has those features, but we dont have the bench pressing equipment.
I have a Dance Dance revolution pad and game for my ps2
we have the tai bo basic workout....somewhere
and I have a jump rope.
with what I have, what can I do to get in chape and get an effeciant work out. Im 16, so I need healthy eating options too. I'm not over weight or anything, and I'm built curvey anyway, sort of broad shoulders and wide hips, but I want my thights, calves, abs and arms toned and in shape. school starts in two weeks, I dont need to get in shape by them but it would be nice to have a head start!
I would like my parents to have a tredmill but we cant afford it right now, and I cant go running because I have serious knee problems, and athletic ashma, and seeing as I live in a hilly area, there is no such thing as low impact.
lunges are out of the questions too.
so something that isnt too tedious or boring, something that doesnt take up too much time, and somethin effective!
♥ Thanks guys!
The following healthy living recommendations will help you if you’re trying to lose weight, tone up your muscles, have aspirations of building lean muscle mass, are attempting to get a wash board stomach, or just want to feel better:
*1) Burn more calories then you're consuming everyday and measure your results using the following formula: Calories Consumed minus Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) minus Physical Activity minus the Thermic Effect of Food (TEF). A website that explains this formula in more detail and will help you determine how many calories you need to reach or maintain a certain weight is at http://www.primusweb.com/fitnesspartner/ library/weight/calsburned.htm
Get a diet and fitness calculator that you can put on your computer or cell phone. This will allow you to easily calculate the above formula, set goals, log your daily calorie consumption, and register your physical activities.
Set realistic goals for your ideal body weight. Here are two websites that will calculate a suggested body weight:
Adults: http://www.halls.md/ideal-weight/body.ht m
Teens/Children: http://www.kidshealth.org/kid/exercise/w eight/bmi.html
It is difficult and unhealthy to lose more than one or two pounds per week. There are 3,500 calories in a pound. If you eat 500 fewer calories per day for a week you will lose one pound. If you burn through exercise 500 more calories per day for a week you will lose one pound.
*2) Eat natural and organic foods found on earth versus something created by a corporation to make money. Eat meals in small portions throughout the day and take a good multi-vitamin supplement.
Avoid “High Glycemic Load Carbs” (sugar, pastries, desserts, refined starches such as breads, pasta, refined grains like white rice; high starch vegetables such as potatoes) and drink lots of water. Read this article for more information on high GL Carbs:

Do not try fad diets or diet pills. Here is an excellent food pyramid that anyone can follow: http://www.rayandterry.com/html/images/P yramidLRG.gif?osCsid=26a424be471d1337e7c 2f105d5c64d9d
*3) Exercise on most days by doing cardiovascular training and/or resistance training activities.
Read a book or find a certified trainer to make sure your doing all resistance training exercises correctly. A great book to buy that teaches you the resistance training basics is “Weight Training for Dummies”. A superb magazine to buy with resistance training routines that will not get you bored is "Muscle and Fitness". Signup for the free newsletter. An excellent free online resource is at http://www.exrx.net/
A good book to buy that teaches you the cardiovascular training basics is “Fitness for Dummies”.
*4) Get plenty of sleep. Sleep experts say most adults need between seven and nine hours of sleep each night for optimum performance, health, and safety.
*5) Educate yourself continually on health issues and make a life long commitment to good health. A great free publication is “Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2005”. A superb book to read is “You The Owner’s Manual”. An excellent periodic publication is the “Nutrition Action Health Letter”. A reputable test you can take to measure your biological age is at http://realage.com
Look at all areas where you can enhance your health. For example, make improvements in the quality of the air you breathe. Review outdoor air quality forecasts where you live and get an indoor air purifier. Many Image 17.5S home gym manufacturers
Today’s home gyms can be quite expensive investments that today’s family simply cannot justify purchasing. However, for those that are interested, there are cheaper or used gyms readily available on the Internet. There are many places that offer these used gyms, but eBay and Craigslist are the most popular. Both sites typically have many options available and are for sale at a fraction of the original cost. For those that are wary about purchasing goods over the internet - another lesser known option is the gym manufacturer. Many Image 17.5S home gym manufacturers will take used gyms for trade for upgrades and then sell these used systems at a discount. The benefit of buying from a manufacturer is that they’ll typically replace any worn or broken parts before selling the product.
