Need some thoughts on home work out tools , specifically the total gym?
http://www.beachbodycoach.com/esuite/home/abpusa

Im a martial artist and I need to focus on strengthening specific body parts that I dont work out enough in my normal training (mainly the hamstring and some of the upper body). I dont like typical home gyms as they feel kinda clunky , the seats get uncomfortable when lifting heavy weights, and they are annoying to switch weights. Now I have seen allot about the total gym and it looks pretty good for what I want. However I would like some opinions on it , and maybe other alternative home gyms.

I have a total gym and think it is a great machine for toning and even hitting some smaller muscle groups. The only thing I had against the total gym is I was a weight lifter when younger and as I toned and lost weight with the total gym I could not get enough resistance from it for some major muscle groups since the whole resistance is based on your weight.

If you just want to tone and work small muscle groups its great. I still use it for a good warm up and stretch before my heavier workout.

You can also get a pretty good aerobic workout on it because you can switch from one exercise to another pretty quickly.

The guide that comes with it lists many exercises for any part of the body and after spending many hrs on it found many of my own.

How many of u think its better to work out at home rather than gym?
ANDREW LELEK

I am 22 and i work out at my home. I have a flat board stomach, well toned chest. I do push ups, pull ups everyday depending on my capacity. I also work out for my abs. Do u think its enough to maintain my physique or should i join gym? Is it okay if i work out any time of the day? How much time i've to wait after my lunch to start working out? Plz answer with experience.

I only workout at home. You can see from my photo, it's not hurting me any :)

I've built an entire business around helping people workout at home. take a look at some of the photos of people I've trained online. The links are below.

I just bought a home gym, How can I figure out what weight settings to use for each work out?
FISHING-2008-ANDREW LELEK

I just bought the Gold Gym XR45, does anyone know of any websites or anything to walk me through what weight to put on for each exercise, im trying to lose weight not bulk up. Thanks so much!!!

I learned this from my trainer. Just pick a weight you think you can do. If it's too heavy, go down 5lbs, too light go up 5lbs until you find one that is heavy enough it's challenging, you should be able to JUST do 12 reps, and the last 2-4 should be really hard. When you can do 12 easily, without the last ones being hard, go up 5 lbs. But basically around the 10th one you should be having a difficult time finishing them but JUST be able to. Write down the numbers, and if you aren't on just the right weight today, adjust tomorrow.
Try about 30lbs for biceps (or 15 each), 25 for triceps (12.5 each), 50 for calfs and thighs and if you have abductors/aductors, about 90.... 40 for abs, 60 for back... those are a little on the low side so start at that and adjust it as neccesary. You shouldn't be able to do 12 easily, and if you are reaaally struggling before 8, it's too heavy, but make sure it's heavy enough, even the first ones should feel heavy for you but the end ones shopuld be almost painful.

What is the best home gym or work out machine for me?
http://www.abpusa.us

I am a little outta shape right now and i am looking for a piece of equipment that will help me get into shape and maybe work on some muscles while im at it

(personal experience would be nice)

This is all I use:

2 dumbbells
1 barbell
Bench press with leg extensions and leg curls

This is much more cheap than home gym systems. It also works the muscles more effectively. Always go with free weights.

All the best.

Do you think you would work out more or less if you had a gym at home?

I have been looking at buying some gym equipment for a home gym, and for just a little more than my yearly membership at my gym I can purchase a weight station with 7 different work outs, a treadmill, and a boxing station with a bag, speed ball & chin-ups & Vertical knee rise attatched, but I am wondering do people with a home gym actually end up using them, do they lose the motivation you get by going to the gym??

It depends on the person. Personally, I have workout equipment at home, but it's harder to block time at home than going to the gym. At home there are many distractions from the phone, children, spouse, housework, etc.. At the gym there are few to no distractions.
