i was wandering how old you have to be to use gym/fitness equipment (treadmill e.c.t) in a gym/sports centre.
i live in scotland (uk) by the way

It all depends on the specific gym.

My community gym says you need to be 15 without parental supervision.

But where I used to live the age used to be 13.

You can go to the gym no matter what age if you have your parent.

Hello, I would like to purchase something to use inside this winter to get my cardio done. I have a treadmill, I'm looking at the elliptical trainers as an alternative? Which would be better, one of those or a stationary bicycle? I am looking to get the most work out for the hour I do each morning.

Definitely an elliptical trainer, they work out out harder than a stationary bike and you can burn more calories but they are better for your knees and easier for people who are new to working out than a treadmill. Elliptical machines are great ways to work out

I'm looking to set up a home gym in my basement, but I have no idea what the best brands are. I'm thinking about getting a universal set, plus a treadmill. I've seen lots of "Weider" home gyms on craigslist but one of my friends at the gym told me to avoid that brand at all costs. He did recommend "Bowflex". Any recommendations? Thanks in advance.

Hi there,

lately my dad's been trying to lose a 2-3 inches around his waist for health reasons. He's always been an active guy, but now that he's almost 65 he has cut down to just walking every day. The only thing is that though he is walking (45 minutes - 1 hour each day), it doesn't help much in losing inches around his waist. So he did some sit-ups, but that resulted in back pain.

I was just wondering what I could get him for Christmas to help him out a bit, if possible? Any suggestions would be great,

If you do not drop them on his toes.
Muscle building is good all around & since muscles use more energy for maintenance it helps keep down weight long term.

I'm the kind of person who needs her exercise, or else I get grumpy and bored. It's raining outside. Really hard. What exercise can I do?

p.s. No fitness equipment in the house and going to the gym is not an option. Thanks in advance

Those who are suggesting yoga have a good idea (especially since you can look up yoga exercises, even yoga excercise video clips online, as some are suggesting, and you obviously have an internet connection), or on the other hand, have you tried isometrics?

Isometrics is where you do not need the exercise equipment because you act as both sides of the resistance equasion: You push against yourself. Not the most exciting, perhaps, but as you say, it's already raining! (It's raining here, too!)
