Two 25-year-old Lane County companies that sell water fitness gear the world over say they’re poised for expansion in the coming three to five years, after taking a financial hit during the recession.
HYDRO-FIT and AquaJogger essentially created the deep water aerobics industry in the mid-1980s by inventing the gear that makes it possible, said Mark Grevelding, spokesman for the Aquatic Exercise Association, a nonprofit trade group based in Florida.
“If you’re exercising aggressively in the deep end, you need some kind of flotation support,” he said, adding that the locally produced gear was the essential step in this development.
