My wife and I do 8 minute Abs every other day, but the movements hurt my back and neck. We were thinking of purchasing something like the Ab Lounger, but the reviews seem to indicate that it isn't very effective. Does anyone have any suggestions or opinions on equipment they've used or currently use?
Just buy a good mat and work on the floor. All the ab-oriented props like the ab lounge merely substitute for the standard crunches, leg raises, planks, situps, et cetera. You can make any ab exercise effective if you do it right -- and without spending much money.
If any ab exercise hurts your back or neck, you are doing it incorrectly -- or, you have some sort of structural or alignment issue that needs addressing (separately from the ab issue).

i don't suggest uses exercise equipment. i recommend u do hollow body, side, and arch rocks. a hollow body position is when you are lying on your back with you feet raised and your shoulders off the ground with your back lying flat against the ground. an arch is the opposite thing on your stomach. side are the same thing on both sides. another thing you can do are V-ups, arch ups, and side crunches. v ups are when you raise both your legs and back off the floor at the same time. arch ups are the same way except on your stomach and side the same why but on your side. i know that that this doesn't answer your question at all but these are some exercises that i use and are free but affective.
no such things as the lower abs. muscles either contract as a whole or not at all. it's physiologically impossible to isolate part of a muscle.
don't use localized fatigue to judge the effectiveness of an exercise, it's one of the biggest mistakes made by most.
