i have an at home elliptical, and i feel like i just dont get the same workout as i do when i go to a gym...

(it may just be me thinking this, since im at my house and i tend to get bored/distracted)

is there any difference in gym ellipticals vs. home?

This is a question i hear alot from the ladies at my gym, Yes there is a difference. when you are at home working out you just dont feel as motivated and get bored easily so you dont push yourself as hard, whereas whe you are at the gym you can converse and your mind clicks and subconciously thinks that you have competition so you work harder!!

Audio strider from nordic track. I own this machine. I think you could get it on sale for this amount. This machine is the best home elliptical that I have ever used. Before I purchased the audio strider I had gone through two cheaper models from Kmart. Big mistake, I should of pulled my money together and just purchased the audio strider in the first place.

I used to have an Orbitrek that I really liked but it broke after a few years and I've heard that the new one is of a lower quality. I'm hoping to spend under $250. Can anyone recommend one?

I just got an Elliptical trainer from Sharper Image for only 180 dollars.. It's the best quality.

The best lower end brands are Horizon and Keys units. Spirit also has a couple of lower priced units coming out in Sept-Oct that are very good and will have great warranties. Keep away from anything by Icon Fitness (Proform, Welso, Image, Epic).

I am looking to purchase an affordable elliptical machine so that I can lose weight in my home and not spend a lot of money at the gym. I believe that I would be able to spend about $400 on this. If any of you have suggestions on brands/models that would fit my criteria, please let me know.

Me too!!

Unfortunately, I have an old knee injury, and thus, the only machines which are comfortable for me are the Precor machines, which are super expensive.

So, the gym for me. Oh well, life's a *itch.
