I looked up the definition of "elliptical" and it has to do with language and or geometry..... Where did they get the name for the exercise equipment that is called elliptical? Why that word?
because as the machine is used the feet trace an elipse, ie undergo eliptical motion, therefore eliptical trainer
I'm looking for a piece of exercise equipment that is good for working the lower body (hips, thighs, legs, butt, and stomach too). Yes, and all answers above this one are fantastic (that's rare) just don't over do it. 30 minutes is a good work out, occasionally you can do a bit more. For best fat loss results hit your fat burning target heart rate.
I've used an elliptical before and I loved it. Just wondering if it's effective for most of these areas.

on an elliptical, you really dont need to worry too much about top of the line shoes as there is almost no stress on your feet from pounding. Running shoes are made to protect your feet and cushion them from the constant pounding on the pavement....

CHANDLER, Ariz., Nov 10, 2011 (GlobeNewswire via COMTEX) -- Elliptical Mobile Solutions recently announced that alpha testing has been completed on its latest Micro-Modular Data Center (MMDC), the R.A.S.E.R. HD. Initial testing revealed the rack-level, container-based data center is capable of cooling IT equipment using water temperatures up to 85 degrees F due to EMS's proprietary closed loop cooling methodology. According to Scott Good, director of critical facilities for GKK Works, who conducted the testing, this is a major breakthrough as chillers used to cool IT equipment represent 33 to 40% of a data center's energy cost.
